What if... Frodo somehow resisted the temptation of the ring and dropped it down. What would gollum be like after? Return to nomal Smeagol?

I think that though the hold of the ring on Gollum would be released, and though he already is crazy, the fact that it would be gone would probably make him go even more insane then he already is. Eventually he might get better, but Gollum probably would always be there, even if Smeagol has predominant control.

If Frodo did manage to destroy the ring by himself Gollum would have surely died. The only reason he was still alive was because of the rings hold over him, so if the ring was destroyed Gollum would have aged quickly, like we saw with Bilbo. If he did not die of old age he would have surely died of grief of losing the ring, even possibly jumping into the fire after it. I have no doubt he would not have survived very long.

I agree with Ten, Gollum probably would have died v. soon after the ring was cast into the fires of Orodruin. I think he would have jumped, trying to somehow save the ring, but obviously would have died in his attempt.

No, he was a goner. I dont think there would have been any hope. and I think he would die soon, just as Korgoth and Tenacious said
