Yeah, I really meant "race" but Gwaihir works too.

Not again! I'm really no good at these things, but it's really fun trying to guess them. Another awful riddle then:
I challenged a stranger but was surprised For what I learned deceived my eyes. My company was entertained for a while, And I was able to make him smile. But when trumpets heralded the close of day, I was forced to go away.
A person (ME related).

No, though that is a very good guess. Try again.

OK, since it's been a week since the last guess, I'll post a clue. He only appears in ROTK, and he is from the race of men.

Nope, not the king of the dead. The stranger in the riddle was a hobbit.

No, I meant that the stranger mentioned in the first line of the riddle was a hobbit, but the actual person the riddle is about is from the race of men, and he challenged a hobbit, (Pippin). If this doesn't make sense I'll try and put it clearer, but keep on guessing!

Nope, but definitely closer. He does belong to Minas Tirith.

OK, if no-one can guess this riddle within a week I'll give up, and tell you the answer. Please carry on guessing though. (I can't give any more clues as it would just give up the answer, although the person lives in Lampwright's Street in Minas Tirith)
